It’s always nice to find a product or service that meets your expectations, but it’s even better when you have one of those all-too rare occasions where your expectations are exceeded. I recently had one of those experiences. It wasn’t a restaurant or a car dealership or a vacation, but with a web hosting company of all things. I’ve spent the better part of a year planning the launch of a new music blog and, while I was focusing the better part of my creative energy and attention on the creative side of the venture (bringing talented writers and photographers on board, working with designer on the look and feel of the site and establishing contacts in the music industry), it was my experience with our web hosting company that really made a lasting impression about how a service provider can do things right.

I’m a business person and I was also in start-up mode, so saving money where possible was always an important consideration when preparing to launch the new site. It’s not that I was ever interested in cutting corners; I’m realistic enough to realize that going down that path seldom ends well and I would never subject my customers to that practice, so I don’t expect the companies I work with to do it when dealing with me. Which is why I was so pleasantly surprised by my experience with webhostingpad.com, the web hosting company that now handles my site.

Before webhostingpad.com, I went through several months of frustration while I tried to get the new site up and running. In retrospect I suppose I was a little naive, but given the relative ease with which one can create a web site these days, I assumed that having it in production was a relatively straightforward process. I assumed that by shopping purely by price, I would get the best deal. My logic went along the lines of it’s just server space, so the only difference between cut rate and premium priced web hosting should be the impact on my budget. It turns out I was wrong. I went through two companies that were near the bottom end of the pricing scale and both were disasters. The issues ran the gamut from cheap servers that were prone to crashing (bringing my site down with them) to nonexistent customer support and then the bait switch tactics where that low price didn’t include a list of hidden fees and extra charge services. Fed up, I went to a premium priced service, but I was shocked to find that they wanted charge me for things like data backup, firewall and an e-commerce cart. They also wanted to charge extra for streaming audio and video support. Webhostingpad.com turned out to offer the lowest price of any web hosting company (at $1.99 per month), but I was bowled over by the fact that their price included unlimited bandwidth, features that even the highest priced hosts charged extra for, and support staff that were second to none.

Disaster recovery is series of steps that prepare us for the recovery from technological disaster that may be man made or natural. In today’s world, where IT is growing, it has become mandatory for everyone to opt for backup services. For this, portable back-up software is also available now to protect the data from disasters.

GFI Backup Home Edition which has been released by GFI is a new backup software service available at free of cost and specially designed for the home users. It is wizard driven and uses ZIP standard which is supported by majority of systems.

Network auditing software is also disaster recovery software, which enables IT administrators to escape from the helplessness of network. It also comes in handy and provides timely action. Without this software, companies might face many problems which may cause a disaster. Network vulnerabilities can be of any type like- network connectivity failure, virus attack, so on and so forth. This tool also allows the users to detect, assess, and correct the security vulnerability. The GFI also provides GFI LAN guard which is a software service for both medium and small businesses. To escape from the loss of data one must go for these back up services which are an important part for the protection of data and recovery.

Business continuity and disaster recovery software are essential tools for any business as in case of an emergency, disaster recovery software can help the organizations to deal with critical situations when the disaster occurs either due to human activity or a natural activity. Unexpected event can occur at any time no one can predict the future, it is possible to be prepared so that when an emergency occurs we can deal with the situation and the various data, applications etc. can be saved.

The beat feature of disaster recovery software is that we can have common dashboard in the software program so that we can monitor the situation. Effective disaster recovery software must provide the ability for the administrator to directly send/receive the messages to/from the pre-specified group so that the situation can be handled easily.

Disaster recovery software should allow the administrator to assign the various tasks to the different people. It must also provide the instant messaging and conference call option. Cost is the factor to be considered while purchasing the disaster recovery software. Companies should not be mean while purchasing the software as having the right tools to deal with a critical situation can often mean the difference.
